A gunman killed 26 people, 18 of them small children, in a shooting on Friday morning at an elementary school in Newtown, Conn., about 65 miles northeast of New York City, a law enforcement official said. The gunman, who was believed to be in his 20s, walked into a classroom where his mother was a teacher. He shot and killed her and then shot 18 students in the classroom. He also shot seven other adults, and then killed himself inside the school. The shooting ranks among the worst in recent United States history. The ages of the children who were killed were between 5 and 10 years old, President Obama said during a nationally televised address during which he wiped tears from his eyes. |

this is horrifying. what issues were in this guy's head.. supposedly he killed a family 'relative' (reports are saying it was his father) he lived with before heading over to the kindergarten-4th grade elementary school. he shot at the principal's office before heading to the room where his mother was teaching a kindergarten class to continue the spree.
those poor families of the victims and the survivors. i cannot imagine what this community is going through. just watching the news hurts. parents shouldn't have to bury their children.. they were so young. children, parents, teachers, and faculty always deserve a safe school.
what made it even worse was the press/media who were trying to interview the young students outside of the school!! awful. so many terrible shootings this year - obviously there is going to be a lot of talk about this when it goes from conversations about mourning and grief into political conversations. i hope nobody here was affected by this. :(
